Commercial Window Cleaning – Rose Street, Edinburgh

With the growing number of tourists visiting the beautiful Scottish capital, particularly for events like the Edinburgh Festival and the Edinburgh Tattoo, accommodation to house these visitors is becoming more and more of a priority and as a consequence new hotels are being built. One example of this is a brand-new hotel on Rose Street in the heart of the city.

In July 2017 EdinburghClean.co.uk was asked to provide a commercial window cleaning service for this new Hotel opening on Rose Street. Along with work to enhance the original buildings, a new gable structure has been built. EdinburghClean.co.uk has been instrumental in readying the considerable number of new glass panes for guest rooms, reception areas and neighbouring shops. Our remit at EdinburghClean.co.uk was to clean all of the windows on the building. The finishing work to the surrounding stone work and frames meant that the windows needed a lot of sealant, render, and building dust removed from the glass and frames to ensure that they looked their best for the official opening. A lot of our work involved using access lifts so as to effectively and efficiently clean glass panes and their surrounds.

This project was particularly challenging and presented a range of logistical hurdles all of which we were able to overcome. For example:-

ACCESS – While the hotel is in a great location for tourists, access to Rose St can be tricky at the best of times. This is because it is partially pedestrianised and narrow with many al fresco food venues also along the street. Add into the mix the frequency of passing delivery vehicles who service the high number of bars and restaurants in the area, and this job could be a logistical nightmare. Great care had to be taken to ensure that members of the public were safe at all times as we worked at height above. To achieve this, we worked closely with the main construction contractor.
OTHER TRADES – There were often a host of other trades that required access to the same areas during the course of our work. In the Rose St project, this called for increased flexibility such as being able to change access times and dates to accommodate other tradespeople.
WORK SPECIFIC ACCESS – Many sections of the glass required problem solving on how best to reach and clean these effectively. You will notice in the images recessed walls on the new building, but also large sills on the older sections. All of these challenges called for strong lines of communication with the main contractor to find the best and safest way forward.
